Raffaele Rossi was born in Alba (Cuneo) on May 20th 1956, after attending the Art College in Novara, fascinated by the ancient Venetian painting, he moves Mogliano Veneto, near Treviso, where he lives for some years.
Attracted by ancient pictorial techniques, he gets closer to the "bottega" or workshop of two Venetian painters, Valeria Rambelli and Ottone Marabini, who reside in Piombino Dese, the Paduan countryside. From these two artists he learns how to grind and triturate colours, egg tempera and oil, he acquires techniques of wood and canvas painting and becomes experienced in researching and re-using ancient pictorial procedures.
After having attended the studio of Valeria Rossi and organized the first collective exhibition in Venice, he follows some courses of Engraving at the "Scuola Internazionale di Grafica" (International Design School) and takes part in the "Scuola Libera del Nudo" (Free School of Nudity), located in Venice too.
In 1978 Raffaele holds his first personal exhibition in Mogliano. Soon after this experience, he comes closer to the pictorial environment of Ottone Marabini. This last painter guides and supports Raffaele, by awakening in him an interest in Anthroposophy.
At the beginning of the 1980ies the painter suspends his expositive activity for a long meditative pause. Meanwhile he experiments the fresco technique, makes research and accomplishes several tests on materials.
Consequently he develops a special love for whitewash and plaster, which leads him to the present pictorial moment, characterised by the use of marble and terracotta powders and of natural sands.
The expositive activity starts again in 1988 with a personal exhibition held in Vicenza.
The artist lives and works in Sant'Ambrogio di Trebaseleghe, near Padua.

My Painting style is based on the matter, on its metamorphosis, a theme that is tightly related to the philosophical concepts connected . . .
