Vittorio Ferro is part a family who has worked in glass since the 13th century. Son of maestro Giuseppe Ferro and a member of AVEM, he began to work at the Fratelli Toso glassworkers when he was only 14, studying under his uncles, Amleto and Armando Zuffi, and attended the Scuola di Disegno for glassworkers at the same time.
He became maestro very early and continued to work for Toso until 1981. His extraordinary ability had led him to all sector of glass production, from the most delicate filigree to massive pieces, although his preference for work is murrine, a love inherited from his uncle Armando Zuffi.
He executed pieces designed by every artist connected with Fratelli Toso. He won the Borselle d'Oro in 1969 for his original glass designs executed with traditional techniques. From 1981 until 1998 he worked for de Majo glassworks collaborating with their artists and also creating his own designs baded on his sophisticated murrine techniques.
In 1992, he produced the majority of the works for the young designers exhibiting at the gallery of the Bevilacqua La Masa foundation. Following this he received in 1993 the "Premio Altino" award for the Rainbow Project.
As a famous creative glassmaster of the 20th Century, an invitation was extended to Vittorio ferro to be included in the exhibition of "Maestri vetrai creatori di Murano del '900" in Ravenna, Italy in 1995.
In 1997 he taught in the Finnish glass school of Vetreria di Nuutajarvi, sharing his specialties in glass with the young designers there. Aperto Vetro, the important biannual glass exhibition in Venice, Italy, extended an invitation in 1998 to maestro Ferro to exhibit his works, The Four Seasons, currently displayed at the Galleria Regina in Murano, Venice.
1999 was an important year for Vittorio Ferro. He produced all of the woeks designed by Massimo Nordio exhibited at the Correr Museum in Venice. Also the same year, he had major exhibitions at the Gallerie Colori in Essen-9Katerberg and Zeche Zollverein Schacht in Essen, Germany.
He exhibits regularly at various galleries in Japan, Galleria Regina in Murano, Venice and select shows in the U.S.A.
